  • Fotodiox Macro Extension Tubes are a wonderful substitution for expensive macro lenses, enabling you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens at a fraction of the cost while maintaining its original optical quality. By placing distance between your camera body and lens, focusing distance is shortened and the magnifying effect of your subject is created. Macro tubes increase the lens-to-sensor distance, allowing for closer focusing than what is normally allowed by the lens itself. The greater the length of the extension tube, the closer the lens can focus. This means you can now get macro performance without needing to switch to a specialized lens and you will retain all the normal benefits of your optic when the macro function is not in use.

The camera mount coupling adapter and lens mount coupling adapter can be used independently of the extension tubes or you can add in the tubes for extreme macro photography. Because no other optical components are added with this kit, the image preserves the original optical properties of the lens. This is an affordable and simple way to turn your existing lens into an inexpensive macro lens. This tube set includes a lens-coupling ring and a body-coupling ring; three extension tubes of various sizes are also included to build up to the desired magnification. Life size image can be achieved with this set up.

    Extension Tubes Overview ¹

An extension tube is simply a hollow cylinder that fits in between your camera and lens, causing the lens to move farther from the sensor. This additional distance allows your lens to focus more closely, which in turn provides more magnification capability. Unlike most lens accessories, extension tubes don't add any extra optics, and are therefore relatively inexpensive, simple devices.

    Choose a Magnification: 1:2 (0.5X) 1:1 (1.0X)
Note: Diagram assumes that the lens is symmetric (pupil magnification = 1)

An extension tube increases lens magnification by an amount equal to the extension distance divided by the lens focal length. For example, adding a 25 mm extension tube to a 50 mm lens will give a magnification gain of 0.5X. Therefore, if the lens's original magnification was 0.15X, then the new magnification will be 0.15X+0.5X=0.65X. The closest focusing distance will also decrease to ~210 mm.

All camera lenses have some amount of native extension, which is used to focus on everyday objects. Lenses with closer focusing distances usually have more native extension, but these will also benefit less from extension tubes. Try experimenting with different lenses to see how extension affects magnification.

  • • Extension tubes work best with short to medium focal lengths, they are less effective with telephoto lenses
  • • Extra magnification also magnifies camera shake as well as the subject, tripod use is recommended
  • • Be sure to use the smallest aperture (largest number) on your lens to give you adequate depth-of-field for better quality images
  • • Each ring brings you closer to the subject as you increase the distance between lens and camera
  • • Different lens lengths will require a different distance to be used from the subject, if the subject is not in focus move the camera closer or further from the subject until the subject comes into focus
  • • The effectiveness of extension tubes decreases as focal length increases. You will need to be careful when working with extreme wide-angle lenses as the focusing distance required may be closer to the lens than physically possible (ie you'd hit the front lens element before you achieve focus).

    Eva ★★★★★

Combining the 10mm and 21mm rings gave me razor-sharp shots of a watch gear that I could never get with just my lens reversed. They click together solidly with zero wobble, and since there's no glass inside, the weight stays almost nothing in my bag. Honestly, this is the cheapest way I've found to

    Carter W. ★★★★★

I was worried about losing image quality with macro tubes, but these lightweight metal rings have no glass, so my vintage M42 lenses stay tack sharp. Being able to stack different tube lengths is perfect for getting just the right magnification on small flowers.

    Sophia L. ★★★★★

The all-metal threading is surprisingly smooth for the price, and stacking all three tubes let me get my M42 lens nearly touching the subject. It’s so light that my vintage primes don’t feel front-heavy, which I didn’t expect. For anyone into extreme close-ups without spending a fortune, this set is
